Dr. Darren Wallis received a doctor of optometry from SUNY, State College of Optometry in 1998. While studying at SUNY he received a research grant funded by the National Institute of Health (NIH) and performed several studies on myopia and its progression. The results of his research were presented at the Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology (ARVO) and were published in several journals, including Ophthalmology and Vision Science. While at SUNY, he also participated in research in the area of Contact Lenses, and upon graduation he was the recipient of the Alcon Excellence Award in Contact Lenses.

In November of 2011, Dr. Wallis was recognized by the Fire Department of New York (FDNY) for the extensive work he has done for the FDNY. He was sworn in by the Commissioner of the FDNY, at a special ceremony held in New York City, where he was given the distinctive ranking of Honorary Chief Medical Officer of the FDNY.

Dr. Wallis is an accomplished Jazz Guitarist and he performs regularly in both jazz clubs and in jazz festivals throughout New York City. He is also an avid tennis fanatic and a USTA ranked 4.5 tennis player.
